Reed is a English teacher for a summer class. He teaches writing and is very good at what he does. He's been married to his college sweetheart, who he thought would be his forever, but as it turns out, he was wrong. This makes him rethink what he thought at the time when he asked her to marry him. She came with money and family from high places. He thought he would be able to make her happy by having a simple life with him but he was wrong. When he received a news, something tragic, he pushed his wife away. And somehow, the situation made him decide what really needs to happen and just to accept but by doing that, he has to get a divorce. The word divorced just seemed so wrong, it made him feel like a bad person.

Things changed for Reed when he saw a familiar face from when she was still in high school, Auburn Lawrence. They had a connection back when she was still in high school. Somehow, seeing her took him back into time, how she stood out and he never met a student like her. BUT he never saw her as someone younger than him. Treated her like they were the same age. He knew now that what they had was something special.
"We were safe then - she was my student and I her teacher - but now we were in an entirely different place where the possibilities seemed endless. Endless and exhilarating. While I hadn't put a name to it back then, now I could. Now I recognized it for what it was. Chemistry."
Reed and Auburn took what they can get just to be together, since trying to deny the pull they both felt for each other was impossible to do. They had their happy and sad moments, lustful and steamy moments, like no other. At first it was all rainbows and unicorns, and when it became the saddest, grueling experience, Reed had to fathom, it had me bawling like a baby. It made me see that life as we know, we should cherish and enjoy. Know how important your life is because tomorrow isn't promised. It could be taken away from you in a blink of an eye. I cried writing when their story came to a heart wrenching tragedy.
Relating to the situation kind of made me struggle to finish reading their story. I know I've seen people have different opinions about Auburn and Reed's journey, but my opinion is mine and I loved and hate it at the same time. It broke me into pieces and still am struggling even after a lot of time had past from reading their story. I only ever read HEA's and reading this scared me to death, but hey, it's reality. We have to accept it. It'll be hard, but you know there's always someone out there fighting to stay alive and some of us are lucky enough to not have to go through that. Thank you for sharing Auburn and Reed's story, Adriane Leigh.
