“Deep breaths. Keep breathing. Keep moving. Deep breaths.”
A little bit more heartbreaking and a lot more heartwarming. This debut novel by Sarah Ashley Jones was one story that will leave you crying and smiling with every page turned.
Charlotte “Charlie” Jennings was the responsible daughter, the one who obligingly obeys her parents even though she wants other things for her life. So unlike Cameron, her twin brother. Cameron left town as soon as he was old enough to provide for himself. He attended college out of state, he became independent, and he lived the life he wanted for himself without being watched and told what he should do. He knew this is what Charlie also wanted, he wanted to live a more “freer” life with her, but he knew she wouldn’t leave their parents until maybe after college and that is still a big fat maybe.
But life had other plans for both of them and helped Charlie live that life that she and Cameron had always talked about. Unexpected and heartbreaking timing. Charlie’s life suddenly took a sharp turn and she was presented a summer of fun and independence. Whatever she wanted to do, she can. Thanks to Jhett, Cameron’s best friend.
Jhett Hudson was a tattooed, sexy, musician a la chef who wanted to be a friend to Charlie. But come on, the chemistry between those two are pretty obvious. Jhett is such a protector and I love him for always seeing to Charlie, making sure she’s safe and well-taken care of. Jhett is a fun person to be with and he compliments Charlie’s personality. He’s not without some guilt in his conscience though.
Charlie and Jhett’s friendship or relationship or whatever it was that first few weeks was something that happened so naturally and effortlessly and I am so pleased about this! I liked that even though Charlie was a Southern belle and almost naive, she knows what she wants and does not dilly dally about it. Same goes with Jhett, he’s thinking about his promise to Cameron but still not fighting his feeling for Charlie. They are fun, carefree and has their emotional moments too. I want to give them both a hug and hang out with them. Charlie is a pretty hilarious drunk. I couldn’t stop laughing at her after she drank several alcoholic drinks that would make a new cocktail in her stomach.
I loved the chemistry between them and how natural it all felt. Sarah Ashley Jones made me laugh and cry with her writing and it felt pretty effortless too.

“You are always worth it to me.”
*happy sigh* Oh sweet love. Happy. I am happy how Sarah Ashley Jones finished Jhett and Charlie’s story. It’s realistic in the way that Charlie and Jhett mourned after what they lost in the first book. It was not easy for them during the first months but they’re still together and facing it as partners. Another thing that I loved about it. They didn’t give up on each other.
The author made a good job on giving us flashbacks too and made us experience with the characters what they’ve been through in between those times after Promise Me This ended and how their love story will finish. It was as sweet as ever and still as emotional. I absolutely loved the Epilogue, such a perfect HEA for both of them and even the rest of their families and friends!
