If you are familiar with my reviews then you are all aware that I am sucker for best friend’s little sister romance trope. There is something about the forbidden and temptation factor that makes this kind of trope so compelling, fun, and sexy. And in Eva Spencer’s Slow Grind, the authors have decided to take a fun spin on this trope but also include a theme of friendship and emotions.
“I might be in love with him, but he’s never going to be in love with me.”
While this book may have the undertones of romance, the main emphasis of this story is the deep connection and bonds of friendship. How far will you go for a friend? Would you even go so far as to stripping to earn a few bucks so you can help cover the medical expenses for a friend with cancer? And so Eva Spencer presents a story of a group of guys who are willing to do that for their friend and with the help of their best friend’s little sister, anything is possible to achieve that goal. But along the way into teaching these guys to be the next Magic Mike of Australia, romance begins to brew between Andrew and his best friend’s little sister, Aubrey.
While I like the concept of this book, I felt the book fell flat into developing the characters and details. I wished the author went into more depth with the story line so readers like myself could connect with the characters especially with Max and his friends. And as for some of the secondary characters, there were times I felt there was no need to bring up. For example, Emma and her sexuality since it played no bearing to the story line. There are some great scenes in the book but other than that there was nothing that really stood out for me as memorable. Overall, this book was just an okay read and I hope the next book of the series will focus more on the characters and keep the focus on them while bringing forth romance, emotions and depth.
