So when I first read the blurb of You Only by Melanie Jayne, I was intrigued. I have always been one of those hopeless romantics who couldn't resist a good second chance romance. Though the biggest underlying theme is about second chances, Ms. Jayne also highlights the importance of loving and finding yourself.

As much as I love a story that highlights and pinpoints these important themes, I found Only You just an okay read. I didn't hate it but I didn't love it either. I thought the book started off with a strong and solid prologue, but as I read several chapters in, I didn't get that strong pull to love these characters. It just felt stagnant. You would think after 15 years, these characters would have been mature in handling things but it didn't turn out the way I would expect. I guess I was expecting this strong chemistry that was palpable right off the pages but for some reason it was lacking that hence why I just thought this book was okay.
The writing was good but I felt the author could have condensed certain parts in the book and elaborated more on the connection of Hale and Finn. For a second chance romance, I wanted to feel the raw emotions but I just didn't feel that. While I know there are several people who loved this book, I just happen to think this book was just okay. But what I can tell you is that I am more intrigued with Jasmine and Izzy's story and what will happen to their marriage and how these two can rediscovered the spark to their marriage.
