Have you ever read a book from an author who you know you can always count on to leave a big fat smile on your face? Well, Penny Reid is that author for me. In her newest installment to the Knitting in the City, Ms. Reid has knitted and weaved a story with so much depth, honesty, humor, sacrifices, and LOVE.

If you read the prequel, Ninja at First Sight then you were introduced to how Greg and Fiona met and fell in love in college. Readers got to see a young Greg and Fiona discovering their love, passion, and bond for one another. A bond that was tangible and palpable from the beginning. A bond that has been tested and will be tested as they embark on their lives together as a married couple. And so in Happily Ever Ninja, we are reunited with Greg, Fiona and their two kids.

The love Greg and Fiona have for each other is just as strong the day that they got married. Without a doubt, these two completed each other and were each other's heart and soul. But after 14 years of marriage, it seems Fiona has all the weight on her shoulders. She has to be wife, mom, friend, and basically a ninja to keep the household in order. Fiona understands that Greg has to work for months off site for an oil company, so all the responsibilities back home in Chicago falls into her hands. With everything on her plate, all the stress and burden begins to pile up. So when Greg returns home for a few days, Fiona is thrilled to have her husband, best friend, and lover back but she is also sad knowing that he will leave again. As with any normal married couple, Fiona and Greg gets into a fight right before he leaves for work, and so it leaves an unsettling feeling among both of them.

So when Fiona gets a phone call that Greg has been kidnapped in Nigeria, Fiona doesn't hesitate to get on the plane and go rescue her husband. With her former CIA training and the help of her friends, Fiona rescues Greg from the kidnappers but along the way to safety, their marriage and bonds of trust is tested. Will Fiona and Greg rediscover what is needed to fix their marriage?

Happily Ever Ninja was absolutely BRILLIANT. Ms. Reid has written a story that captures the true raw essence of what a real marriage is about. She showcases the ups and downs and doesn't sugarcoat any of it. What drew me into this story was how REAL the story of Fiona and Greg Archer was. It was refreshing to see a couple really work on their issues and express to each other how they hurt one another emotionally without realizing it. So if you are looking for a book that weaves raw emotions, humor, love, sacrifices, and communication then I highly recommend you to read Happily Ever Ninja. This book will showcase that in order to knit a happy marriage, both must find a common thread and for Greg and Fiona, their marriage may have got tangled up in a ball of yarn but once they figured out how to untangle the threads, they were able to knit their happily ever after ninja style.
