The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost is a poem that everyone has heard of. Two roads diverged in a wood and I- I took the one less traveled by. And that has made all the difference. But what if you didn’t take the less traveled path but took what you considered the "safe" route. One decision that altered the course of your life. A choice of always wondering what if. And in Kennedy Ryan’s latest release, Long Shot what if you had the opportunity to redo and get that second chance to choose differently and make it right. Is it truly a long shot for two strangers whose path were meant to cross?

The spark. You know the one that every romance author speaks of. That spark of meeting the one and knowing that person completes you and speaks to your soul. And for August West and Iris Dupree, that one fated night in a bar, they had that connection. The spark but unfortunately, the timing was never right. And so Iris Dupree would be left wondering what if? But leave it to fate, their paths were to cross once again and what happens when you get that second shot? Do you take it?
August was amazing but I have to say Iris was the shining star. She was the true MVP. Her story is what took this book to another level. Her perseverance, pain, struggle, and defying all the odds is what made this book. She is a source of inspiration to us all that stars can’t shine without darkness and for Iris, her biggest supporter was August West. He allowed her to shine on her own.

Ironically, sadness is a necessary ingredient for happiness to exist: how could happiness be defined if its binary opposite, sadness, wouldn't exist? How would we define "hot" if there was no "cold"? We wouldn't be able to. Thus, the sadness is necessary for happiness to have a definition. After the storm, comes the rainbow; for Iris Dupree she was the rainbow. The sun. The shining factor of this book. And so if you are looking for a book that broke your heart and was slowly pieced back together then this book is for you. Ryan will speak to your soul as she captures the true essence of resilience, love, hope, survival, and happiness. As always, the writing was phenomenal and breathtaking. A must read of 2018!!
