Never Loved by Charlotte Stein is the first book that I have read from this author. I will admit I was looking forward to reading this book since this book was marketed and I quote: "Perfect for fans of Abbi Glines, the first novel in the Dark Obsession series tells the story of a beautiful wallflower who falls for a chiseled street fighter—and learns just how dangerous love can be." Being a big Abbi Gline's fan, I was definitely interested in reading this book. Never Loved was one of those reads that I had mixed feelings..it was an enjoyable book but there was something lacking from having me fully engage into the story.

The story chronicles Beatrix, who never knew loved. She didn't grow up in a home feeling loved so this was in a sense of shaped why she became the person she is. When Beatrix runs in Serge, an unlikely relationship begins to emerge. Two complete strangers forming a connection and bond that is tangible. A bond that helped them heal and complete one another. As Beatrix begins to let the walls of her heart to crumble, she is thrown in Serge's world where she must decide to fight along side with him?

I will admit that the book started off a bit slow for me and in the middle the paced picked up but towards the end, the book felt rushed. I wished the author allowed readers to fully savor the relationship, conflict, and intensity that was brewing between the characters. Overall, I did enjoy this sweet romance of a beautiful college student discovering love with a street fighter.

One book was all it took for me to become obsessed with Aly Martinez. Seriously, I swear this author has an amazing talent for writing these brilliant and epic books. Aly does not give you just an ordinary story but she elevates the story to a whole new level by incorporating so much depth into her story-line. Her books are packed with raw emotions, vulnerabilities, steam, sexiness, and so much more that she has readers like myself addicted to her books. And in her newest release, Fighting Shadows, I absolutely LOVED IT!!!! I thought I couldn't love another Page brother after falling in love with Till but I was wrong because Flint Page stole my heart.

#fs-aly

Fighting Shadows picks off where it last left off in the Fighting Silence, where Flint has been shot and left bound to a wheelchair. His road to recovery to walk again will be a tough and difficult one. In such, Flint doesn't want to be a burden to his family and so he wants to move out on his own. Moving out was a way for him to escape but also escape the feelings Flint has for his older brother's wife, Eliza. Keeping to himself, the hope and light in Flint is dimmed that is until he meets Ash Mabie.

Ash Mabie is the complete opposite of Flint. For someone who hasn't been shown the proper love and attention, she has this amazing light and aura about her wherever she goes. In order to survive, her father makes her pick-pocket unsuspecting people. Though she maybe superb at pick-pocketing, she somehow finds herself stealing one thing that she may never want to give back. Flint's heart. So can Ash Mabie bring back the light in Flint's eyes and show him to stop living in the shadows?

I absolutely loved the relationship of Flint and Ash. It was raw, tangible, and palpable. What I loved about this book was that Ms. Martinez allowed Flint and Ash to grow up and feel the loss, the hurt, the anger, and the love. She really does take her readers on a gambit of emotions, which I absolutely loved. Though this book was not so sad and tragic like Fighting Silence, I did find myself more invested on the emotional pull of Ash and Flint. Their connection and bond was what really gravitated me because in a short period of time that they were dating, they were forever connected and etched to each other's heart.

I really don't want to say much since this book was one to be experienced, savored, and read. Without a doubt, Aly has once again written a phenomenal book that had everything I craved, wanted and needed in a book. So if you are looking for a story that weaves family, friendship, heart, love, loss, hurt, and second chances all into one book then look no further than Fighting Shadows. The only thing you will be fighting is resisting the urge to stalk and be patient for the release of Quarry's book.

Flint comes from a family of fighters, his the middle kid, his smart, but he is also very bitter. Instead of loving his brother for being the best brother anybody could ask for, he acted like the biggest jack*ass of all. He grew up bitter and in love with this brother Till’s wife. Instead of being happy for Till and his life, he held on to his anger he shouldn’t have in the first place. His brother worked hard to give his family everything they deserved, but it was never enough for him. So he left and live in the life of solitude, to find himself. Everything was fine with him, until he met her. Ash was everything never thought he wanted. She was smart, funny, such a crazy girl and most of all she breathed life back into Flint. But when his crazy thoughts and bitterness drove Ash away, will he ever get her back to have a chance to apologize and have their second chance? Read and find out.

Flint was a little childish in the beginning of the book, that If I could’ve smacked him myself If I could. He was whiny, uncaring and angry. But as I read on, Flint grew into the man that his brother Till and wife Eliza helped him become. Most of all he opened up his heart to Ash for love that their future would bring. Ash was a fun character who was full of life for someone that had such a hard life. Together they were great, apart they were broken. As always I enjoy reading about all the other characters from the other books, especially Slate my favorite of all.
